3 October: Reminiscences and realisations on the Queensland publishing scene

3 October 2012

In a coup for our final general meeting for 2012, we will hear about the fascinating careers of three top-gun editors: Sue Ogilvie, Maggy Saldais and Clare Hoey.

Sue has worked in various corporate units of government departments, commissions and authorities such as Education, Premiers, Primary Industries, and Crime and Misconduct. Driven by a passion for words and good book design, Sue started her career in the children's country lending service of a library in South Australia.

Maggy's editing career began in the early 1980s when the sainted Loma (Style Manual) Snooks, then Publications Manager of Kinhill Engineers, recruited her and then inspired her to complete her Masters in English Literature.

Clare trained and worked in-house for commercial publishers, governments and universities, after which she freelanced for eight years. Today she's a policy writer, but always uses her editorial skills.
