With just three weeks to go, more and more details of the conference are being revealed - for example, some new speakers:
- Dr Jackie Watts OAM, Councillor and Chair of the Knowledge City Portfolio, City of Melbourne, will be welcoming delegates to Melbourne.
- Dr Angela Savage, Director of Writers Victoria and an award-winning author in her own right, will be exploring great moments in literature when editors saved the day.
- IPEd's Patron, Professor Emeritus Roland Sussex OAM, who has been a popular keynote speaker at previous IPEd conferences, will once again regale us with his perspective on English as 'the' international language.
- author, broadcaster, TV presenter and entertainer Tony Wilson will delight us as the Gala Dinner guest speaker.
Final program now available>
The full timetable for the conference is now available as a downloadable PDF.
Dinner-only registrations are available for the Gala Dinner, allowing you to bring a guest or to attend the dinner even if you can't make the conference. Catch up with colleagues in a relaxed, inclusive environment while enjoying a magnificent menu designed by a team of talented chefs, and the opulence of the heritage-listed Myer Mural Hall. Mural Hall isn't open to the public, so this is a rare opportunity to see it!
The Melbourne Noir à la mode theme reflects the era in which the Mural Hall was designed. Think Phryne Fisher or the Great Gatsby. The dress code is not mandatory - a woman (or man) should dress first and foremost for her (or his) own pleasure, after all! - but for those who do wish to dress up it can be interpreted to suit your sense of style and humour.
Our MC for the night will be the inestimable Fiona Scott-Norman, writer, satirist, broadcaster, columnist, comedian and teacher with RMIT's Professional Writing and Editor program. Fiona is also an experienced DJ, and will be providing music for the post-dinner dance floor.
As mentioned above, the delightfully funny and erudite Tony Wilson will regale dinner guests with stories about his editors. Tony is the author of 20 books, and a highly entertaining speaker who loves speeches so much he started the Speakola website!
