Nominations sought for four positions
Editors Queensland is inviting nominations for the following positions. Volunteering with EdsQ is a good way to network and find out more about the world of editing. See below for details about nominating for these positions - you can do this before or at the AGM and SGM of Editors Queensland on Thursday 8 September.
Events Officer/s: Meetings
This is an interesting and great role for anyone who enjoys networking and can commit to finding and negotiating with professionally relevant speakers for 10 member meetings per year. Prior to a meeting, you will liaise with the IPEd Membership Officer about branch notices and registrations, and afterwards forward invoices, receipts and claim forms to the Branch Budget Officer. It is essential that you attend member meetings or arrange for a deputy in your place, to meet the speaker and act as host, as well as arrange for a member of the branch to take photographs and write a report for Offpress. In this role you will be improving your access to industry professionals, which is always a great career move!
We need a VP able to attend Management Committee meetings and act as temporary President in their absence, as well as act as representative and/or spokesperson for the Branch, carry out specific tasks at the request of the President or the Management Committee, work to raise the profile and public image of the Branch and generally to foster its objectives as set out in IPEd's rules. This is a great role to hone your skills and introduce you to many editors and others in the publishing business.
QWC Liaison Officer
Editors Queensland urgently needs a member who is also a member of the Queensland Writers Centre to consider becoming the QWC Liaison Officer. As a vital link in areas of cross-promotion and to promote our services to writers, this is a fantastic networking role and involves attending committee meetings of both organisations to keep up to date with new initiatives.
Can you spare a couple of hours on our Member Meeting day to pick up preordered platters for the meeting (or if you are really keen, prepare them yourself)? Any expenses are, of course, reimbursed via the Branch Budget Officer. It helps if you live on the south side to be closer to the venue for our meetings at the Gabba Ward Office, but any offers would be most appreciated.
Please let the Management Committee know if you would like to help as a support to any of these positions. A support role is a great way to learn about how the branch works and get to know the people on your committee.
