Current Projects and Book Futures: Queensland Writers Centre
Wednesday 2 April 2014
GUEST SPEAKER: Meg Vann, CEO of the Queensland Writers Centre
On her website, mamaguilt, Meg leads off her bio stating that she has 'trekked over glaciers with her toddler while pregnant, talked herself out of being mugged on the streets of New York, and been detained for no apparent reason at Uzbekistan airport while on a diplomatic visa'. In her 'down time' back home in Brisbane, Meg runs Queensland Writers Centre, convenes the Brisbane chapter of Sisters in Crime, tutors and guest lectures in writing subjects at The University of Queensland and presents writing workshops across the state.
The Queensland Writers Centre is the largest organisation supporting writers in the state. Since September 2012, under Meg's leadership, QWC has ventured into developing new programs, platforms and markets in support of its members, in addition to forging stronger ties with other organisations in the publishing industry (including the Society of Editors). During her presentation, Meg will give an overview of QWC and its many activities and then focus on some key projects: The Institute of the Future of the Book, The Australian Writer's Marketplace, and the new online course, The Amplified Author. Meg will also discuss the editing practices that QWC uses for dealing with their digital workflows.
Please come and join your fellow editors to welcome Meg and listen to her present 'Current Projects and Book Futures: Queensland Writers Centre'.
